About

Welcome to readle.co.uk Engineering Tools and Guidance, a website dedicated to providing useful tools and resources for all branches of Engineering.

About the Author

readle.co.uk Engineering Tools and Guidance was created by me, Doug Readle in 2019 to provide useful information, tools and articles to Civil Engineers of all experiences. I am a UK based Chartered Civil Engineer specialising in the design, assessment and inspection of bridges and heavy civil structures on the UKs road and rail network.

In my professional life I am a Technical Director for Inertia Consulting based in Derby. I have a variety of experience wthin the bridge engineering field, from maintenance and inspection, through to assessment and design of major structures. My specialism lies in applying technology and software programming to problems, hopefully this is evident in the site content!

In addition to my professional work I also undertake voluntary work for the Friends of Cromford Canal, a canal restoration society based in Derbyshire, I currently sit on their Strategic Restoration Committee. Away from Engineering I enjoy walking and running as well as sitting in country pubs drinking real ale, mitigating any health benefits from the exercise.

Acknowledgements

Producing this website has been a labour of love since 2018, it would not have been possible without the help and support of a number of people.

Chief amongst these is my partner, Ellie, who has provided advice, encouragement and support throughout and has often had to put up with a moody engineer complaining about images not centring properly or bending moment diagrams "not playing ball". You are the better part of me, without which life would be duller and greyer.

I would also like to thank my family and friends who have provided advice, motivation and also put up with me droning on about HTML, PHP, Javascript and frameworks ad nauseam.

Finally, I would like to thank the many engineers I have worked with and learned from throughout my education and career. While largely too numerous to name, I would like to particularly thank my father, John Readle, who initially encouraged me to try the career I now love. Without his support and advice I would not have become an engineer or have launched a website. I would additionally like to thank him for his thorough check and review of the website content.
